2 Months!

I forgot to post this yesterday, but Nathan is 2 months old now! It's gone by fast and also seems like forever ago at the same time. He had his 2 month checkup last week and he is doing great. He is about 13 lbs now, which is almost double his birth weight. He's in the 60th percentile for weight, 20th for height, and 20th for head circumference. I'm not surprised about the height or his head, Johnny was the same way. I'd be very surprised if we have tall children too, I'm the shortest kid in my family, and Davie's not too tall either. But Nathan's starting to get chunky and get little rolls on his legs, I love chunky babies!

Pioneer Day!

On Pioneer Day Davie had to work, so the boys and I hung out with some friends in our ward, Patrick & Nikki. We went to the parade here in Logan in the morning. Johnny had so much fun, he kept yelling "yay parade!" and clapping for all the floats. About halfway through the parade he started waving at all the people on the floats and copying the way they wave, the "Miss America wave"! It was so cute. He was so excited because he got candy, (we're using it as a potty training bribe). After the parade we went down to Willow Park and checked out the booths, and I got the cutest little outfit for my friends baby, the picture will have to be put up after she has her baby shower so I don't ruin the suprise! At Willow Park we tried funnel cake, it was so good! We came home for the boys to nap and get some lunch and then that evening, when Davie got off work, we all went over to Patrick & Nikki's for dinner. Nikki made some awesome ribs, we couldn't stop eating them and got so stuffed. After dinner we did some fireworks outside, Johnny got to do some sparklers, he was so excited. He's getting a lot better at holding it correctly. Johnny had a blast that day and slept great when we got home. He loves hanging out with "his Pat"!

How we spend our days!

Lately we seem to do the same thing throughout the day while at home. My kids have started sleeping in and I am not complaining! We start the day a little later but it's worth it. In the morning I usually feed Nathan while Johnny is eating some breakfast and then get to work cleaning or doing laundry. This is what our livingroom looks like on a typical morning......

GOING CRAZY!!!!

A very wise woman told me something a few months ago that, at the time, I didn't believe. "Going from having one child to having two children is the hardest adjustment you'll ever have to make when having more kids." Sister Cook, you were right!!! I'm hoping that you are also right that going from two to three kids is easier than going from one to two, or else I just may not have any more kids!

I love my boys so much, but this have been a very trying week! Johnny is hitting his terrible two's and getting two new teeth. The result = Johnny crying constantly, telling me and everybody "no" "let go" "don't" "stop it" "mine" etc. The only possible way to calm him down is to put on his new favorite show......

The Wiggles, Wiggle Around the Clock, different from the previous Wiggles dvd he loved. This show is constantly on in our home. The pros: I can clean without having to guard Nathan and worry about his safety, Johnny stops crying, sometimes Nathan stops crying, I can somewhat hear myself think. The cons: I am constantly singing "Wake up Jeff", & "Wave to Wags", I have only watched one other show during the day once in the last two weeks, Nathan is getting hooked too, Davie & I spent the other evening watching the Wiggles on youtube. (They used to be part of an 80's band that was really popular, we had to check it out...)

As for Nathan? Well, the calm has worn off! He has become a major Mama's boy, which is good and bad. This is good because Johnny has always been more of a Daddy's boy, so it's my turn. It's bad because I cannot put him down! He cries and cries and goes purple in the face, he almost makes himself pass out. I pick him up an put him on my shoulder and he's fine. I can feed him, burp him, change him, it doesn't matter, he's happy if I'm holding him and mad if I'm not. He hates his swing, hates laying in the nursing pillow, hates the pack-n-play, and doesn't want to be held by anyone else most of the time. I love cuddling with him, but it's very hard to get anything done when you're holding a newborn on your shoulder 24/7.

The biggest issue is that they both want my attention at the same time and I am just horrible at giving it. I can't feed them both at the same time, change both of their diapers at the same time, and I can't hold them at the same time. I look forward to the day that Johnny realizes this and offers to help me instead of whining at me. I also look forward to the day that Nathan can comfort himself and enjoys his swing or laying on the floor and playing.

I'm sure things will get better, it's just hard when both of your kids are going through rough stages at the same time.

Nathan, 5 1/2 weeks, we've realized that he was my dad's eyebrows, you can kind of see in this picture, I have some on my phone where you can really tell, I'll upload them soon.

For the 4th of July we went to my dad's house. I somehow got put in charge of planning everything, so I thought it'd be fun to do what we did last year. Ben and Charity and their kids came up friday night and we started getting everything ready. Charity, Emily, and I made the food for the next day while the guys bathed kids and did fireworks for them outside. We got up early on the 4th, well, everyone but me, and went to the Clearfield parade. Johnny loved it because he got candy and ate a bunch, something I usually wouldn't let him do. As soon as the parade was over we went home and packed up the vans and headed to Huntsville and Pineview Lake. The lake was full when we got there so we went to the park for lunch. Johnny got a frisbee at the parade and he and his cousins played frisbee with Grandpa while we were at the park. This nice cop, (I know, unusual) let us into the lake because he remembered us from earlier and had told us we could get in in an hour. I kind of felt bad because there was a huge line of cars waiting to go and we passed them all. Oh well! The kids starting swimming right away, and Davie and Dad blew up their raft/paddle boats. I ended up sitting in the shade a lot with Nathan since he's still so young, but I think he enjoyed being outside. Johnny had tons of fun swimming and riding in the boat. I went out a couple times in the boat with Davie, and while we were out one time we actually got pulled over, on the lake! I didn't even know they could do that! I saw the police boat go by and said something about how it'd be funny if they pulled people over, next thing I knew they had lights flashing and they were coming for us! I started laughing, I asked Davie if we were breaking the speed limit in our little blow up boat. Turns out they were bothered that Davie wasn't wearing a life jacket, I'm not sure they can even really do anything about it other than say something, but it was pretty funny. After talking to us they turned their lights back on and went after my brother Ben, also not wearing a life jacket.

Anyways, we had a lot of fun at the lake! We left a little earlier than last year so we could go get cleaned up for the fireworks. We found the perfect spot to watch them, I was so excited that Johnny was awake this year, last year he slept the whole time. Charity brought little glow sticks for the kids to play with, which turned into a lifesaver while waiting for the fireworks to start. Johnny liked the fireworks but I think he was a little bit more excited about his glow stick. It was a great day though, and lots of fun hanging out with family.

Update on us....

Things have been pretty busy lately. We're still getting used to having two kids, some days are better than others. Nathan is pretty calm if he's being held or laying next to me. He does not like his cradle at all, most nights he ends up in bed with us. I'm ok with this though because I actually do get more sleep that way. He is growing so fast, he's over 10 lbs now, and is learning to let you know what he wants. He has different cries for different things. He's starting to get rolls on his thighs and his cheeks are chunking up, it's so cute!

Johnny is doing pretty well with being a big brother. He loves Nathan so much and is always wanting to hug and kiss him. He's still having a hard time understanding how to be soft, but each day he seems a little better. Johnny is having a hard time with other things though, he isn't listening as well as he used to, and he's starting smarting off. He's always telling me "No", "Don't", and "Let go", in a really snotty voice. We're trying to be consistant with disiplining him when he does this, we give him a warning and explaing what he's doing wrong, if he keeps doing it he has to sit on time out. It works for a bit, but a couple hours later he does it again, I hear consistancy is the key to teaches young children, so I'm hoping all this effort pays off someday. Other than his random outbursts he's as cute as ever. He can say almost anything now, and can almost carry on a conversation with you. The other day he asked me to go into the kitchen with him and when we got there he said he wanted to eat biscuits! I had no idea he even knew what a biscuit was, but he specifically asked for one. It was adorable! Johnny's starting to notice when he needs to go to the bathroom as well, so next week we're going to attempt potty training.....I've heard some different theories about how to do it, so I'm going to pick one that I think will work for him and give it a shot.

Davie and I have been pretty busy taking care of the kids and doing things with family lately and haven't had much time to hang out with eachother. The other night my sister Emily and her friend came up to Logan and babysat the boys so we could go out on a date. It was so nice, it was the first date we've been on without kids in months. We decided to take advantage and go to the temple. It was such a nice night, we both needed to go and it really helped us both feel better about some things. It was so beautiful there, I haven't been in a long time because I've been pregnant. We've decided we need to go monthly and possibly every other week.

We've been able to spend some time with both mine and Davie's families lately, which has been really nice. Johnny loves seeing everyone and playing with cousins. Things are still pretty tough but it's helpful to be around family and keeping busy.
